Spend the day at the beach
Ballina is home to some beautiful stretches of coastline, pristine beaches and turquoise waters. While in Ballina, a beach day is a must. Lay on the sandy shores and soak up the sun, swim or snorkel in the clear blue waters, walk along the beach, kayak, paddleboard or catch a few waves in the surf. Ballina even has an ocean pool that is open year-round. Some of the most notable beaches to check out include Shelly Beach, Lighthouse Beach, and Angels Beach.
Ballina Farmers Market
Held on Sunday mornings from 7 am, Ballina Farmers Market is a great location to pick up your groceries or a treat. There is a wide selection of fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, cheeses, and artisan breads that are freshly baked to choose from. The Ballina Farmers Markets hosts local growers and product makers alike and is a wonderful way to support local vendors. After you've picked up your produce, grab a coffee from one of the stalls and try out some of the breakfast items on offer.
Ballina Naval and Maritime Museum
Visit the Ballina Naval and Maritime Museum to learn about the local maritime history, explore the exhibitions, and see the maritime collections and memorabilia on display. There are many insightful exhibitions, including Exploring the Deep, about the history of Australian deep sea exploration and free diving, and The Royal Australian Navy and Navies of the World, which shares the history of our navy and its World War 2 efforts in Ballina. There is also a great variety of model ships on display that are intricately assembled and painted.
Ballina Historic Waterfront Trail
Take a walk along the Ballina Historic Waterfront Trail, which spans from Fawcett Park to North Wall. The promenade stretches along the banks of the Richmond River and includes plaques with information about the history of the river and the early settlers in Ballina. While walking along the track, you'll experience gorgeous views of the Richmond River, and if you're lucky, you may even spot some dolphins or whales along the way.
Visit Lennox Head
A short drive from Ballina is Lennox Head, a coastal town popular among surfers, hang-gliders and fishers. Spend the day exploring Lennox Head, at the beach, on the water, or in the air for adventure seekers. If you're after a slower pace, then pop into town and explore the main street, which is full of boutique stores, and a park for the kids. Stop by one of the cafes or restaurants for something to eat and indulge in the seaside town atmosphere.
Killen Falls
Seeing the breathtaking Killen Falls is an absolute must. There is a viewing platform to see the waterfall from above, or you can trek to the base of the falls to see the falls from a different angle. From the bottom of the falls within the cove, you can see the green foliage draping over the sides, adding to the atmosphere of finding a secret paradise. Before coming to Killen Falls, research to ensure you have the experience required to enjoy the hike safely.
Discover Cape Byron
A short car ride will get you to Cape Byron, a gorgeous seaside town with plenty of things to do. Visit the Cape Byron Lighthouse or one of the stunning beaches for a wonderful beach day. Explore Arakwal National Park to hike through the bushland and hike on one of the many tracks, visit one of the distilleries or breweries or venture into the town of Byron Bay. Not to mention if you're there during the right time of year, Cape Byron is a wonderful location to whale watch. There are lots of things to do and see out in nature or in town.

If you're looking to get out in the sunshine and breathe in the fresh seaside air, what better way to do so than to take your bike out for a spin? There are plenty of places to ride through town and surrounding areas along the water if you're after a relaxed ride with gorgeous scenery. The park contains a mixture of trails of varying difficulty suited to most riding abilities across 9 kilometres of all-mountain-style trails.
