Goondiwindi is home to a working cotton farm that grows, harvests and designs its own fashion line. Goondiwindi Cotton is a family-owned business that has successfully run for over 30 years. The company has built their brand and expanded to just under 200 stockists Australia-wide. Start with a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the town and farm, where you'll learn about the history of cotton production as well as the process of taking cotton from farm to apparel. The tour takes approximately 3.5 hours and includes the tour, entry to Custom House and morning tea. Once you're done, visit the store to try on clothes made with cotton from the farm.

Follow the Goondiwindi art trail

The town of Goondiwindi is home to a large range of outdoor art displays and sculptures. With the introduction of the Lanescape Street Art Festival, the art collection grows yearly, so there are always fresh new pieces to view. The collection begins right as you come into town with the impressive 'Coat of Arms' steel structure and 'Once Upon A Time' both by Angus Wilson. For street art, wander Bowen Lane and the surrounding lanes to see the vibrant works that plaster the streets. For a gallery setting, head into the Goondiwindi Art Gallery to see the rotating exhibitions. Other highlights include The Big Cod at Redmond Park, the McLean Street' Celebration Mural' on the water tanks, and of course, the GrainCorp Silos at Yelarbon - one of Australia's largest silo works.

Step Back in Time at the Customs House Museum

Discover the history of the region in the Customs House Museum. Now a heritage-listed building, the Custom House's land was once bought for 6 pounds 2 shillings. Visit the museum to discover the town's past through photographs, preserved artefacts and informative displays that share knowledge about the region's early pioneers. Step out to the Pioneer Shed, where you can learn about the agriculture and wool industry, see the tools used, and the Blacksmiths Workshop.

Macintyre River

Spend a day relaxing at the Mcintyre River in Goondiwindi, where the tranquil waters and lush surroundings make for a wonderful nature escape. The Goondiwindi Botanic Gardens are an attractive retreat that nature lovers will adore. The gardens feature 25 hectares of green space showcasing a diverse variety of native Australian flora in a lovely setting. Take a leisurely stroll along the paths, admiring the plants and magnificent views of the lake. While in the gardens, watch for the colourful species of birds that live in the trees and surrounding the water. The gardens are an ideal family destination with 2 hectares of manicured space for kids to run free. There are also BBQs and playground facilities so families can enjoy an afternoon lunch outside with entertainment for the kids. So whether you're visiting for a peaceful walk in a beautiful spot, having lunch in the park or interested in snapping some stunning landscape shots of the gardens, Goondiwindi Botanical Gardens is the perfect place.

Explore Inglewood

Take a trip to Inglewood, a nearby town, 1-hour drive east of Goondiwindi. Set out early and spend the day exploring the town and all it has to offer. One of the highlights of Inglewood is the Inglewood Tobacco Museum, which holds relics of the past, where visitors can learn about the history of the area. Enjoy a historic walk along the Inglewood Olive Walkway, a 2.2 km loop that features informative signs on exciting history and events. Purchase some delicious olives at Coolmunda Organic Olives, an organic olive grove selling a range of olive products and tours of the farm. Lastly, visit Leven K Farm, a gorgeous lavender farm where you can wander through the charming lavender gardens and purchase good quality products from the shop. These are only some of the many things you can see and do in Inglewood.

Camp at Coolmunda Dam

If you're looking for an excursion nearby, head to Coolmunda Dam, just over an hour east of Goondiwindi. The dam is a terrific destination equipped with all the necessities to comfortably spend the day. There are toilets, drinking water, BBQs, and even campsites so you can linger and camp out under the countryside stars. Coolmunda Dam offers the opportunity for a range of water activities, including swimming, kayaking, sailing, wakeboarding, paddle boarding, etc. Plus, there is access to a boat ramp for boats to enter and exit the waters safely.  If you're an avid angler, fishing is allowed with a permit, but not onshore or in close proximity to the dam wall. When fishing within the dam, you can expect to catch Golden Perch, Silver Perch and Murray Cod. Coolmunda Dam is a fantastic site to unwind in nature and bring the family together.

Goondiwindi Cinema & Theatre

Catch a movie in a slice of the town's rich history at Goondiwindi Cinema & Theatre. The Goondiwindi Cinema was built in 1937. At the time, it was used as both a Town Hall and Civic Centre. From there, it was transformed into a cinema in 1950 for the next few decades. However, in 2010, with funding, the council gave the cinema a much-needed facelift and refurbished the complex into the cinema we see today. The cinema offers the perfect date night destination or reprieve from rainy weather. You can stock up on all your classic cinema favourites like buttery popcorn, lollies, and chocolate and grab a seat to watch all the latest flicks at the movies. Keep an eye out for any special events the cinema runs, as there are also live performances to see.
