Tasmania Zoo
Spend the day at Tasmania Zoo! The zoo is a conservation centre for animals from Australia and around the world, even taking in orphaned and injured animals who now call the zoo home. Bring the kids and take your time exploring the zoo, seeing the enclosures and learning about each animal in keeper talks that run daily. There are so many animals to visit, from the feisty Tasmanian Devil to the big cats and everything in between. And if you want to get even closer, the zoo offers close encounters with a range of animals. Close encounters include photos and interaction with animals like the Wombat, Meerkats, Giraffe, Binturong, Red Panda, Caracal, Cheetah, and more.
Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery
Immerse yourself in art, history and natural science at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. The QVAM is split into two locations: the Museum at Inveresk and the Art Gallery at Royal Park, each a short drive away from the other. The museum has a range of fantastic exhibitions to explore, such as the Tasmanian Tiger, which shares artefacts and the history of this extinct animal; Botanica, which explores the different uses of flora; and the Tasmanian Connections exhibition, unearthing dinosaurs, geology and more. The museum is also home to the Planetarium, where visitors can have an out-of-this-world experience, booking shows to learn about the stars and planets. The art gallery has a range of contemporary and traditional displays to see that are inspiring, thought-provoking and entertaining.
Explore Cataract Gorge Reserve
Just outside Launceston City Centre is the Cataract Gorge Reserve, a stunning nature escape right in the heart of Launceston. The reserve itself is a beautiful river surrounded by dense forest and a breathtaking Gorge. Walk the expansion bridge and take in the serenity of this enchanting site. The Gorge has walking trails for visitors to explore, panoramic lookouts to see the best of this reserve and snap fantastic pictures, a chairlift ride over the Gorge, a cafe and restaurant for a bite to eat with a view and a swimming pool to cool off in. Spread out on the lawns and relax in nature, have a BBQ with the on-site facilities and spend the day exploring this oasis.
Boag's Brewery Tour
If you love beer, then this one is for you! Take a tour of Boags Brewery and get a peek behind the scenes of how this iconic Launceston brewery has been creating its delicious lagers and ales since 1881. This fully guided tour will take you through the traditional brewing process, sharing their history and insider information about the brew and process. Following this you'll enjoy a guided tasting of a few lagers and ales in the heritage-listed bar.
Stroll Through City Park
A visit to City Park is a must when in the charming city of Launceston. This gorgeous park is a wonderful space to wander through and bring the kids. The park is rich with history, architecture, memorials and horticulture and is worth the visit to explore and experience. City Park features a playground, BBQs, picnic tables, shady spots and manicured lawns to lounge on. Special features of the park include the John Hart Conservatory and the Macaque Enclosure, home to the Japanese Macaque Monkey colony, a gift from Launceston's sister city, Ikeda, Japan. Stop by the park, observe the cute monkeys and stroll through the lovely gardens.
Launceston Historic Walk
Step back in time through Launceston's rich history on a historic walk around the city. A Sense of Place takes you on a self-guided walk through the streets of Launceston to see landmark buildings and spots that played an important role in the city's past. This beautiful walk stops at over 50 locations across the city, showing magnificent displays of architecture and locations around the town with blurbs to read on each and learn more about their history. While 50 stops may be a few too many for some, pick the top locations that interest you most and make your own path, stopping to explore your chosen spots and admire the buildings.
Visit Tamar River
The Tamar River is a stunning river located just outside of Launceston. This is a terrific spot to explore, and there are plenty of things to do and see while here. Start with the Tamar Island Wetlands Centre and Reserve, where you can learn about the importance of the wetlands, sit in observation areas to watch the birdlife and stroll down the boardwalks enjoying this captivating location. Alternatively, take a 50-minute cruise down the Tamar River from Launceston and explore the waterways, seeing the Cataract Gorge and other landmarks of the area. Finally, explore the water on a 90-minute guided tour of the Tamar River on Hobie kayaks, enjoy the beautiful views, snap heaps of pictures and learn about the area.
Launceston Ghost Tour

You'll walk the streets and explore city buildings, hearing about the murky convict past of Launceston. You're in for a treat at Treetops Adventure, an adventure hub for everyone. Bring your friends and family and take to the treetops for adventure-filled activities to try. There is a ziplining where you can sail over the treetops, catering for most ages up to 75! Visit NetWorld, a network of interconnected nets elevated off the ground with trampolines, ball pits and more. Take on the Tree Ropes Courses and challenge yourself to make it through all 5 of them. Pick your path along the ropes course and make your way up to a knee-shaking 25 metres off the ground. Take a 90-minute Segway Tour through the gorgeous forest, followed by a practice course. Or hire a bike and take on one of the 3 mountain bike paths in the park. There's something for everyone.
