Start your day off right with a walk around Lakeside Park in Pakenham. It is a lovely spot to walk with a flat, gentle 1.5km circuit around the Lakeside Loop path. Explore Cardinia Reservoir Park
A short 20-minute drive will get you to Cardinia Reservoir Park. It is a gorgeous nature reserve with expansive parkland to explore and unwind. Head to the lookout for stunning views over the water reserve and surrounding bush. Pick one of the trails around the reservoir to spot wildlife that calls the park home. Keep an eye out for kangaroos, birds like the Wedge-Tailed Eagle and other little critters. If you're interested in fishing, head to Aura Vale Lake to cast a line. There are BBQs on site to cook up your catch for a fresh lunch and plenty of spots to bask in the scenery and have a picnic.
Visit Deep Creek Reserve
After somewhere to bring the kids? Visit Deep Creek Reserve and let the kids run wild. It has a large playground for kids to swing, slide, and climb on, as well as an all-abilities playground and water play area. Once the kids have run off steam, pop into the plant nursery area and smell the flowers in the display gardens. There are boardwalks throughout the reserve that run along the 3 creeks for visitors to stroll and explore the parkland space. And when you're done exploring, finish up at the cafe with a coffee and a sweet treat.
RJ Chambers Flora and Fauna Reserve
If there's one thing Pakenham has no shortage of its parklands to visit. RJ Chambers Flora and Fauna Reserve is another of many beautiful nature reserves to visit while in the area. It's the shire's largest reserve, with over 121 hectares of land to trek and many trails throughout the park. The reserve features BBQs, a picnic area, and shelters to sit under, making it a nice spot to have lunch after walking up an appetite. And, while you can't bring your dog, you can bring a bike. This is a fantastic way to explore the park, and if luck is on your side, you may see the lyrebirds that call this gorgeous oasis home.
